How well is it built?

The Sonik XP4 is a solid-feeling unit built with a combination of ABS plastic and aluminium. It gives off the impression of something that can take a knock without compromising function. That’s a real bonus for anglers who are often navigating steep or uneven banks in the dark.

The torch is on the heavier side at 178g, but not to the point where it feels cumbersome. Once on your head, the weight is distributed fairly well, and the strap is sufficiently wide and comfortable for extended use.

The rotating head is a highlight, allowing you to aim the beam without moving your entire head.

Even though it's a budget model, it doesn’t feel cheap. The buttons have a positive click, the rotation holds firm, and the body materials have enough flex to handle real-life usage without cracking.

Lighting Performance

With a 300-lumen output from a 10W LED, the XP4 delivers excellent brightness for under a tenner. The high mode is ideal for long-range viewing or lighting up a wide area, especially useful when scanning a large swim or looking for a dropped item.

The inclusion of low and flash modes gives flexibility. The low beam works well for baiting up close or prepping rigs without attracting too much attention. The flash mode could double up for safety or signalling when needed in emergencies or to alert others.

The beam throw is long and concentrated, unlike wider flood styles. That makes it especially good for barbel anglers or anyone walking riverside paths at night. While there’s no coloured beam, it punches well above its weight for pure lighting power.

Battery Life & Power

Sonik includes a rechargeable lithium battery and a USB cable, which means no extra costs out of the box. A full charge takes just a couple of hours, and you'll get around 4 to 5 hours of use depending on the brightness mode.

While battery status indicators are absent, the runtime is reliable and consistent. You can easily top it up during a session using a portable power bank or car USB socket.

The charging port is reasonably protected and hasn’t shown any signs of wear or loose fitting during testing. Given the price point, the battery performance is more than acceptable.

Is it good value for money?

It lacks some refinements like coloured lights or waterproofing, but the core essentials are nailed. If you need a backup torch or something for short night sessions, this is a no-brainer. It’s also a handy option to leave in the car or tackle bag as a reliable standby.
