5 Things To Know

  1. A versatile head torch for carp and night anglers, with variable 1-200 lumen output and a wide frosted or focused direct beam.
  2. Five colour modes (white, red, green, orange, violet) let you preserve night vision, work rigs, or spot line as needed.
  3. A green 1% night mode stretches runtime to a remarkable 670 hours, so a single charge easily covers long sessions.
  4. USB-C charges it fully in under two hours, and IP66 sealing means it shrugs off rain, mud and bankside abuse.
  5. It is featured in our best head torch for fishing guide.

RidgeMonkey VRH300X Review

Build quality 9.0/10
Value for money 8.5/10
Lighting 8.5/10
Battery 9.5/10

How well is it built?

The VRH300X Pro feels rock solid in the hand, with a thick rubberised shell that is clearly designed for bankside abuse. It carries an IP66 rating, which means it is fully protected against dust and heavy splashes — exactly what you want in wet, muddy conditions.

The dual Nite Glo buttons are well placed and soft to operate, even when your hands are cold. A recessed button shroud helps prevent accidental activation when it is packed away, which is something other torches often overlook.

The elasticated strap is wide, well stitched, and feels secure without being overly tight. With RidgeMonkey’s dual-orientation design, there is no upside down, so you can grab it quickly in the dark and it will always be the right way up.

Lighting Performance

This is one of the most versatile head torches I have used. The five colour modes — white, green, red, orange, and violet — all have specific uses, and you can cycle between them with a simple button press.

White offers maximum visibility and is ideal for walking the bank or casting in the dark. Green preserves night vision but gives more clarity than red, which is perfect for checking bait or rigs discreetly.

Orange gives off a warm ambient glow for social settings, and violet can even be used to recharge glow-in-the-dark tackle. Brightness is adjustable from 1 to 200 lumens, so you are never stuck with just one setting.

Battery Life & Charging

This is where the VRH300X Pro really stands out. You can get up to 670 hours of battery life using the night location mode, which glows at just 1 percent power — more than enough to find your torch when the alarms go off.

In normal use, I found it easily lasts for multiple long sessions without charging. Even on higher brightness settings, you are still looking at 10 to 90 hours of use depending on the mode. It charges via USB-C and takes around 1 hour and 40 minutes to reach full power.

The quad LED battery indicator is a really helpful addition for checking the charge level at a glance.

Is it good value for money?

At just under £50, the VRH300X Pro sits in the mid to premium price bracket for fishing head torches. But when you factor in the brightness, colour options, battery life, and build quality, it becomes a very fair price.

You are not just paying for extra lumens here. The features are genuinely useful, and it feels like a tool made by anglers, for anglers. Some cheaper torches might do the job, but few come close to matching the VRH300X Pro for long-term reliability and session-friendly features.

Pros

  • Outstanding battery life with fast USB-C charging
  • Durable IP66-rated shell and smart recessed buttons
  • Five beam colours including green and red for night vision
  • Excellent light spread with adjustable brightness
  • Night location mode is genuinely useful

Cons

  • Slightly heavier than basic models
  • Premium price may deter occasional anglers
